alltough both network device (hard disk) and file are available, and have been for a longe time, i.e. these are not recent files or ones being changed, a bvckup job keeps failing and retrying over and over again. Please let me know how to solve.

Let me have a look at a relevant excerpt from the log please. You can copy blocks (multiple lines) via the right-click menu.

2019.08.16 12:30:05.964 (UTC+1) 0 2         Backup aborted

1. These updates are triggered because on the backup side something set a Hidden attribute on these files. Perhaps because they start with a dot, which in the Unix world typically means a hidden file (though it should not be causing a Hidden _attribute_ to be reported on these files).

2. The error itself means that the SMB connection towards your backup device went abruptly down once bvckup2 tried to clear this (Hidden) attribute. This likely means that the program responsible for handling share access on your backup device crashed while handling this request, and it was also NOT restarted by the device in a timely manner.

A proper fix for this is to file a bug report with your backup device vendor.

A workaround would be to tell bvckup2 to ignore any differences in attributes between source and backup copies. This is done by adding the following override to the job's settings:

        conf.attr_comp_mask       0

See https://bvckup2.com/support/forum/topic/1140 for how to add an override to a job.
