Backing up Network Drive to External Drive

Just installed a Synology disk on the network to save all our important data however we want to be able to run a nightly backup to an external drive from a Windows 10 machine..

When running the Bvckup2 program I have the following issues...

If I try and run the backup from the Mapped Network drive which in this case is S:    it says "Waiting for the original source device"

If I try and run the backup using the network path along with the credentials i get  "Shadow copying is not supported for the specified location"  and "Error: failed to create a VSS snapshot"

Has anyone had any experience using the Synology Disk Station and Bvckup2 ???      I need some help here...

Thank you!

In reverse order,

To use Shadow Copying (VSS) over the network you need your remote end to be running Windows Server 2012 or newer. See first item on this post for details -

Re: mapped network drives - this is "the best of the best" of the FAQ:

In short, mapped drives is a property of a user session. Once you switch any app to run as Administrator or if you switch Bvckup 2 to run in service mode, it runs in a different session and doesn't see any of your mapped drives.

What you need to do is to use explicit network paths (\\server\share) and, likely, also configure share access credentials -
